Hosting Terms Explained

Hosting can be a little confusing. Here are some definitions to help you make the choice to switch to Zubuz.

storage
The amount of hard disk space you can use at any given time. All of your files must fit into your storage allotment.

transfer
Every time someone opens your website, our server sends out data (text and image files) for them to display, and the amount of data sent is charged to your transfer allotment.

bandwidth
The amount of data that can be sent in any given time interval. Our connection is always at least 100 Mbps (100 Megabits, or about 10 MB, per second) but is theoretically much, much higher than that.

server
A computer, much like the computer that sits on your desk, that stores and serves your files and sends and receives e-mail.
Q: How much storage do I need?
That depends on what you're planning to do with your hosting account. The average e-mail requires about 25 kB in storage space, and the average web page, with graphics files, is around 100 kB. There are 1000 kB in a MB, and our packages allot you 250, 1000, or 4000 MB (or more, if you need it).

Q: How much transfer do I need?
That depends on how busy your site will be. A good rule of thumb is to have 30-40 times your storage allotment in available transfer. All of our packages have at least a 30:1 transfer to storage ratio. However, busier sites may require more transfer. Contact one of our specialists for an evaluation of your needs--just call 888-756-7645 during our regular sales hours, or e-mail sales@zubuz.net, for assistance.
